"Housing in Nation Building 2000 (16-18 March )"

"Housing in Nation Building, 2000" - one of the largest real estate Convention & Expo held at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi was a milestone in NAREDCO's progress. It was for the first time where participants from all over the country and from the industry got together.

The Convention was inaugurated by Mr. S.S Dhindsa, former Hon'ble Minister for Urban Employment & Poverty Alleviation. Mr. H.D Shourie, Director, Common Cause was honored for his outstanding contribution to the housing industry by helping in the formulation of its code of conduct.

The Convention addressed issues such as Fiscal & Monetary measures for the Housing Sector, Self-Regulation & Rating, National Capital Region, Urban Infrastructure & City / Town Planning and Economy in Quality Housing. The event was interactive with panel discussions and floor participation.

Speaking at the Convention, Mr. Dhindsa emphasized that " NAREDCO has a significant part to play in shaping the Housing and Construction Agenda for the new Millennium"

"Homes are the very cornerstone of a nation's security, stability and prosperity. Homes give families a stake in the community and in the nation's future. The opportunity to own a home should be one of the prime motivating factors in the creation and growth of India.

While the government shall encourage home ownership and support it as a national priority, NAREDCO has to create a self- regulatory climate at the national and state level, to encourage the construction of housing.

I am glad that NAREDCO has already laid voluntary standards for the industry with the ultimate result of providing a better product.You have a major task ahead of you in essentially creating or restructuring a whole sector of our economy. You need to work closely with the government to obtain commitments in support of our national housing policy.

The first Convention has set the pace for the future. Over 300 delegates participated in the path-breaking event.

At the Exposition, various organizations in the field of Housing and Construction Sector showcased their products and projects to the general public at large. The following organizations exhibited their products in the Exposition. These included Builders, Brokers, Finance companies, Public sector enterprises (HUDCO, NHB & BMTPC) and the Department of Consumer Affairs. The exhibitors got benefited with the wide spectrum of visitors. An interesting feature of the Expo was the participation by organizations in the related facets of the industry such as software and housing security.
