HSMI
Human
Settlement Management Institute (HSMI), New Delhi was established
in 1985 by the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd. (HUDCO)
to undertake training and capacity building in the Urban Sector.
A team of professionals with varying professional background and
experiences man the institute. Its main activities cover training,
research, consultancy and advisory services in the following thrust
areas:

Housing * Infrastructure * Urban Environment * Urban Poverty * Urban
Finance * Urban Governance * IT for Capacity Building in Human Settlements.
HSMI operates at internal, national and State levels for its capacity
building activities. The Institute is looked upon as the lead Institute
in the urban sector and relied upon by the Government of India for
sector related assignments in capacity building.
Areas
of Operation
At
international level, HSMI works in partnership with several
international agencies such as UMP, UN-HABITAT, UN-ESCAP, UNDP,
UNICEF, ADB, ADPC, AIT, WHO, DFID, USAID, IHS and some of the international
networks such as LOGOTRI (Network of Local Govt. Training and Research
Institutes in Asia and Pacific), Kathmandu, Nepal and CITYNET (Regional
Network of Local Authorities for the Management of Human Settlements),
Yokohama, Japan, in the field of human settlements for various exchange
programmes, other information and experience sharing.
At
National and State Level, besides close working relationships
with the leading national level Institutes in the sector, Institute
has developed a network for the capacity building of the local bodies
in most of the States of the country through establishing Housing
and Urban Development Chair in the leading State Training Institutes.
